There was a man lived in the moon

In the moon, in the moon.

There was a man lived in the moon,

And his name was Aikendrum.

Growing up, you loved slipping into bed for the night. Buttery yellow light from the moon melted through your window, and in its absence you hungered, wandering dreams devoid of warmth and sustenance.

Now, night promises only queasy unease. The smell of rot rises with the moon, forever a malnourished crescent. She is starved of her former fullness.

There were always stories of a man who lived in the moon. Like so many nursery rhymes, they were easy to dismiss. But now? Now you can sense, in your heart of hearts, that the truth of them is all too real.

There is a man living in the moon, and he is consuming her.
